A campaign by the users, for the users.
On Apple’s 50th anniversary, FreeYourMac is announcing a three-part campaign calling on Apple to remember what once made it great — and to embrace practical reforms that would restore user freedom, long-term value, and trust.
The petitions launch May 1, 2026 via Change.org.
Until then, this page is the place to check back for campaign updates, launch links, and ways to participate.

May Day! What’s coming:
Three petitions. One message.
Beginning May 1, supporters will be able to sign one, two, or all three petitions through Change.org.
1) Restore Modular Storage Options on Professional Macs
Call on Apple to bring back premium Mac configurations with modular storage — for greater user autonomy, upgradeability, long-term value, and better data recovery options on MacBook Pro and Mac Studio.
2) Restore Transferability for AppleCare+
Call on Apple to make AppleCare+ coverage clearly transferable — not locked to Apple accounts — so owners can preserve resale value and pass coverage on with confidence.
3) Extend iPhone & iPad Dual-Track Security Update Options to a Full Year
Call on Apple to give users a longer security-update path without forcing immediate adoption of the newest major operating system, reducing the risk of instability on older devices.
About Free Your Mac
After 25 years of providing independent and alternative Mac tech support, we are taking this opportunity to introduce FreeYourMac!
During the past 7+ years of consumer un-friendly actions by Apple Corporation, it has become increasingly difficult to provide friends and clients with clear-cut, affordable (and respectful) Mac solutions. From new non-upgradeable hardware, intentionally expensive Apple repairs, to non-transparent warranty information for pre-owned Macs, and even erroneous iCloud activation locks; what used to be a joyful job has literally become a struggle! (but we’re not giving up!)
With FreeYourMac, our intention is three-fold:
1) To educate and entertain, by blowing the whistle on Apple’s dirtiest details, eventually circulating petitions directly to Apple Corp (similar to the Right to Repair Act, but with an essential sense of humor!)
2) To share important hidden hardware and warranty details that can help people make the best purchase and upgrade decisions to fit their particular needs, without having to pay the AppleStore premium, and/or fall victim to the Applecare Subscription warranty scam (that can tank the computer’s future resell value)
3) To provide essential workarounds: Hardware, OS, software and iCloud tricks… so that creators and hard working people can remain productive on the Mac format, as long as possible!
and 4) If Apple doesn’t start to change their trajectory of maximum control and greed, FreeYourMac will begin to pivot towards specializing in teaching people stuck on the Mac format, how to most easily transition to PC, and become Free FROM the Mac format!
Please stay tuned as we unveil the following episodes over the coming months, including:
a 3-part exposé on Planned Obsolescence
a deep dive into the dirty secrets of Applecare, and how to NOT get stuck with a dead-end subscription warranty
How to safely buy a pre-owned Mac and save big money
Our visit to an iPhone assembly factory, hidden in the dusty backwaters of eastern India!
